Description: During his last visit to Richmond in the summer of 1849, he stayed part of the time in the Swan Tavern, a modest hotel that once stood near the corner of Eighth and Broad Streets. After Poe's death, his luggage was supposedly found there. The deed is dated March 4, 1836. The paperwork also includes a receipt for advertizing the property in the Richmond Whig and Public Advertizer as well as a clipping of the advertizment.Search CollectionCategories
