Poe's only sister, Rosalie M. Poe (1810-1874) owned this sewing box. Rosalie Poe spent most of her life in Richmond, where she taught Penmanship at the Mackenzie School for Girls.

The Poe Museum purchased this item from the Mackenzie family in 1924 for $35.
