The Museum Collection
Description:This stuffed raven, acquired by the Poe Museum in 1942, appears alongside horror film legend Vincent Price (1911-1933) in a 1975 photograph in the Richmond News Leader. This is a young bird. Full-grown ravens can be 27 inches long with wingspans of 51 inches. The Poe Museum's raven, however, only measures 18 inches in length.
A similar bird features prominently in Poe's most famous poem, "The Raven," published in 1845. The poem remains one of the most popular written in America and is the only poem to inspire the name of an NFL football team.
