Exhibit: Buried Alive! 1914 E Main St Richmond VA

Edgar Allan Poe once wrote, "There are certain themes of which the interest is all-absorbing, but which are too entirely horrible for the purposes of legitimate fiction...To be buried while alive is, beyond question, the most terrific of these extremes which has ever fallen to the lot of mere mortality." Some of Poe's most chilling tales deal with the subject of being buried alive--a very real fear for many people in Poe's time. This exhibit explores the facts and fallacies associated with premature burial in the nineteenth century.
