The Poe Museum is located in Richmond, Virginia, the hometown of Edgar Allan Poe. Founded in 1922, the Poe Museum’s mission is to “illuminate Poe for everyone, evermore” by interpreting the world’s largest public collection of Poe artifacts, works, belongings and memorabilia (including Poe’s childhood bed, his pocket watch, rare manuscripts, and even a fragment of his coffin!).

The Poe Museum maintains and interprets the Old Stone House, Richmond’s oldest standing residence, as well as the historic Poe Shrine and the lovely Enchanted Garden (based on a Poe poem, and home to the museum’s resident felines, Edgar and Tib). A visit to the Poe Museum includes a complimentary audio tour of our three exhibit buildings, interactive scavenger hunts for youth, ample time to explore our historic grounds, and a “macabre” retail experience in our Gift Shop.
